The 'Peg and Rough Riders, Day 7, August 13

Butterflies, hot dogs, more horses and -- laundry!

First of all, the biutterflies I forgot from yesterday. The Leaf has a butterfly display. It was supposed to be one of those "free flight" exhibits, which are always great fun. However, they had security problems, so to speak. The butterflies kept finding ways to get outside. Bad idea, as the weather was generally not good for them, and as non-native species, they would be considered invasive. So they are now confined to a cage, while the authorities try to figure out how to keep it from happening again.

On to Tuesday! The day got off to a thrilling start as we devoted the morning to doing laundry and starting to pack our suitcases again. After lunch, we went out and hit a number of stores, including several thrift shops, where I picked up a few cookbooks, a "dollar" type store that provided me with a pair of appropriate socks!

The highlight was a wonderful kitchen and cooking supply store, where I bought nothing through absolute willpower. I would have liked to buy one of practically everything they had.

We took off again in the late afternoon, driving up to Lockport and the Half Moon Diner, famous for its hotdogs since 1938.

It moved to a new building in 1987, and was totally renovated in 2017, with a very definite 1957 look!

It was great fun, but the funniest thing about it was that they played 1970s disco music!

Then it ws on to the Fair and Rodeo Grounds in Selkirk, to see the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Musical Ride. A 30 minute show of the horses and officers performing "intricate formations and drills set to music." Absolutely wonderful! And, I might add, lead by a woman.

It was our last day with Doug and Carleen, and we sat up quite late just talking about absolutely everything.
