The Viking!
This massive Viking was erected in 1967, in honour not only of the Icelandic immigrants who founded Gimli, but also the Vikings who discovered America in the year 1000.
An imposing and impressive statue.
The statue was naturally near the lake, and that provided a nice background for some people pictures.
On our way back to the cottage, we made another stop. Doug's paternal family still lives in the area, and they have a little cluster of cottages. Some years ago the family helped to establish a memorial to those who settle the area and worked so hard.
Truly a prouod descendant of the Vikings!
